VSDB Student Sports

The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind offers a variety of athletic opportunities to its students. VSDB Foundation funds equipment, uniform, and transportation for all teams and club sports at VSDB.  The support of the VSDB Foundation Board has brought new sports like soccer, only the second team of its kind in the U.S., and propelled the goal ball team to win the National Championships.

The athletic program is an extension of the educational program of the school. Sports are unique in that they can develop self-discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, goal setting, physical fitness, dedication, and numerous other qualities.

We offer the student an opportunity to compete with local public schools, private schools as well as neighboring state schools for the deaf and blind. Sports include: girls’ volleyball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, goal ball, soccer, and Cross Country.

The deaf program known as the Cardinals is a member of the Mason-Dixon Schools for the Deaf Athletic Association which competes with other deaf schools in the southeast. The blind program known as the Chiefs is a member of the Eastern Athletic Association of the Blind and competes with other blind schools on the east coast.
